can everyone plz wish my parents a safe flight tomorrow morning to the isle of man cos my dad’s ban from visiting the island has been lifted finally after 40 all cos he fired a bottle rocket at the queen of england when he was a teenager

titians

since i’ve gotten some intrigued asks here’s the story:

when my dad was 15 he went with his scout troop to a scouting jamboree on the isle of man where he and his friends decided to set off bottle rockets in the park cos idk they were dumb boys. and one of the bottle rockets went careening off into the road where it exploded right beside a car

now, in what year was my dad 15? 1977. the queen of england’s silver jubilee year. and what was the car my dad’s bottle rocket hit? the queen’s car in the cavalcade during her jubilee visit to the isle of man

throw in the fact my dad is irish and the 70s were the height of the troubles between the republic and britain and WHAM BAM THANK YA MAM! my dad got hit with a lifelong ban from ever visiting the isle of man and he and the whole scout troop were sent home

idk who decided to let him off for good behaviour after 40 years but when he got the letter in 2017 saying he could visit the isle of man again after jan 1 2018, my dad burst into the room on my stepmom and i and announced, “WE’RE GOING TO THE CHANNEL ISLANDS!”

shout out to the anon who just messaged me “that means somewhere out in the multiverse there’s a universe where your dad murdered the queen of england” which i’m never posting and just keeping in my inbox forever thank you that’s lovely and yes that’s exactly the response i wanted this to get

titians

just to truly bring this story to complete conclusion my dad just facetimed me from the park where he nearly killed the queen 40 years ago 🌟

@liltimmy-tim wow I really don’t know why you had to write all that but literally no one on that post was talking about pedophilia. We were all talking about how it was predatory and that it was grooming.

Ya wanna watch it? Go ahead no one is going to stop you, but why do we have act like this is a movie to empower us? How so? And to do what exactly?

The issue is that the entire movie has a terrible powerdynamic driven by the even bigger and more visible age difference of the actors.

I don’t know your age but I’m 22 and I’d never date 17 year old. Ever and I don’t know why anyone my age would outside of reveling in that power dynamic.

Cause 17 year olds are in high school. They live with their parents. A lot of them have not worked a day in their lifes. They aren’t confident in what they are yet. they don’t even have the slightest clue as to who they are yet and often have little to no sexual experiences. They don’t know anything about their body. Someone who’s 24 is decidedly in a different part of their life and has no bussiness interfiering with how teenagers mature.

So if you’re gonna make a movie about that….you should well think about all this.

So as I said watch the movie if you like. But you can’t force people to act like this is good rep.

The people hailing Call Me By Your Name as ~revolutionary~ probably didn’t support Moonlight but whatever

problematicdragons

Well, actually, most if us did because unlike your sad ass, most of us can support multiple queer media.

Anyway, you don’t care about Moonlight either, you just wanna bitch about cmbyn bc the age difference offends you and it hurts your feelings that you aren’t important enough for that to make a dent in its success.

But it’s cool, we can play your game. You act like Moonlight is revolutionary but never mentioned Big Eden. Why do you hate Native American gays???? You didn’t talk about Carol, either. Why do you hate lesbians? Don’t you know you aren’t allowed to specifically talk about one piece of queer media without mentioning them ALL. 🙄

cutthroatbitchcult

I think that’s ops take is problematic. To pit cmbyn and moonlight against one another is antisemitic biphobic and shows that they fetishize black bodies and the black queer experience.

Also, lmaooooo Moonlight won its awards. The time to support it is over its cmbyn’s turn. I mean it’s not like we have so many queer coming of age films to choose from. Let’s support cmbyn through its award season, like we did Moonlight, and then the next queer films.

I mean it’s almost like you care about neither one and just wanted to start an argument on the internet. They could not be more dissimilar. And by the way, they’re both revolutionary in their own ways.

russianspacegeckosexparty

Ain’t no “pitting” when Call me by your Name is toxic, gross and predatory. You can find way better coming of age stories than that, lol. CMBYN isn’t revolutionary whatsoever but it has white dudes so y'all are drooling over it. “It’s getting nominations” umm plenty of gross, predatory films are “hailed” as “groundbreaking”.

mooninnarrowareas

First of all you don’t get to tell someone who’s black they’re fetishizing black people WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?

Also just because it’s representation doesn’t mean it’s good or even healthy for young people to see. What we’re not gonna do is act like a 24 year old married man persuing a 17 year old is good rep. Especially if there’s no comment on how predatory that is and the guy not only leaves him but leaves a lasting painful impression.

Now it might be a reality for some of us, but we’re not gonna act like that’s anything to be desired. Especially when a thirty plus man is playing that 24 year old next to someone who was what 20 at the time? Yikes yall
